A special mention...

It's a Union Flag Battenberg cake! This was not my creation so I will begrudgingly not take any credit for it. Very pretty Battenberg cake nonetheless. I think I should try making this soon to see if I can do any better :)

Summer Berry Pie

With a ratio of about 80% wild blueberries to 20% raspberries this is one good pie! My first pie attempt since I took a pie class at Bonnie Gordon with Wanda of Wanda's Pie in the Sky. I have managed to recreate this again since making this one to take to the cottage in August. I am looking forward to making some more pies this fall!

Barbie Girl

A Barbie cake for a 4th birthday party. So cute! The birthday girl loaned me the Barbie doll to construct the cake around (the top was printed and embossed on the doll - no extra piping required). The cake itself was a Neopolitan cake, chocolate and strawberry layers with chocolate and vanilla frosting. I built the cake and then carved it to be more or less in the shape of a large ball gown skirt. Lots of piping ensued! Ruffles and flowers/stars with metallic pink dragees. For the final touch I airbrushed gold lustre dust on the lower half of the skirt. A real Barbie princess, which also tasted great!

(No Barbies were harmed in the making of this cake).

mmm Eclairs!

These were for Fathers Day back in June, filled with a raspberry whipped cream and a plan whipped cream. My first attempt at choux pastry. I would definitely try these again, some turned out better than others so I am keen to figure out what the variable was. Very tasty though :)

Bad Blogger!

I have been very neglectful of the blog over the summer...I can't believe I haven't posted since April! It has been a busy summer. I'm going to try to catch up this weekend, stay tuned for more posts!

Back in May I made this checkerboard cake for a very special birthday. It was my first checkerboard cake and I was very pleased with how it turned out. Fresh raspberries on top and yellow buttercream frosting with chocolate buttercream in between the layers. No checkerboard pan required! Yum!

These are some snaps of my cupcakes, chocolate fudge with matcha frosting and Hello Kitty rainbow bit, and some pictures from the Brickworks.
Thanks to everyone who came out!

For one day a year my kitchen is a real bakery! It was Christmas baking day a few weeks ago, treats for neighbours and colleagues. Thankfully there are always extras!
